Lab Steps

Task 1: Connect to Power BI

Once the lab creation process is completed, you can see your username and password.
Click on the Open console button to download the RDP file which connects you to the virtual machine.
After the download is completed, click on the file to open it.
Sign in with your given username and password on the Virtual Machine. Click on Connect on the pop up.
If login is not working. Click and End Lab and start the lab again.
If you are still not able to log in, Click on more choices and click on use a different account to copy the username and password to log in.

Task 2: Save the Power BI Desktop file

Copy the link of the downloadable resource provided below the lab credentials.
Paste the link in the Chrome browser of the VM and download the file.
Open the Power BI application in the VM.

Task 3: Set Power BI Desktop option

In Power BI Desktop, select Options and Settings from the left panel and then select Options.
In the Options window, select Data Load under current files, uncheck all the box under Relationships and click OK.

The main window appears. Click Files from the top left panel and select Save As.
Select the available path in the tab, then in the bottom field, enter the name as whizfile and click Save.

Task 4: Get data from Excel Workbook

On the Home ribbon tab, from inside the Data group, click on Get data dropdown and select Excel workbook.

Select the Excel file downloaded from the Downloads folder and click Open.

In the Navigator under AmazingMartEU2Geo tick the OrderBreakdown dataset and then click on Load.
On the right side under Fields you can see that the OrderBreakdown Dataset is loaded.
If you face the Failed to save modification message, please click the Close button.
Close the PowerBI desktop application and click Don't save if prompted.
Open the PowerBI desktop again and select whizfile file and continue the steps.

Task 5: Creating Dashboard

On the right side, under Fields expand OrderBreakdown .

Under OrderBreakdown select Category field and Sales field. Then from Visualizations select Stacked Column Chart visualization.

After performing the last step you can see a Stacked Column chart on the canvas which shows Sales by Category.

Click anywhere on the blank canvas. Now select the Product Name field and Profit field under OrderBreakdown. Select Area Chart visualization from Visualizations section.

Now you can see two visualizations on the canvas as below, the latest one shows Profit by Product name.

Again click on the blank canvas anywhere. Then select the Product Name field and Sales Field. Now select the Clustered Bar Chart visual from Visualizations.

You can now see a total of three charts on the canvas as below, the latest one is Sales by Product name.

For the new Chart click on the canvas anywhere again and select Category, Product Name, Profit, Quantity and Sales fields from the Fields. Select Line and Stacked Column Chart visual from Visualizations.

You are now able to see a total of four charts on the canvas.

Expand the fourth (Quantity, Sale and Profit by Product Name) chart on the remaining canvas by expanding it through the corner. The canvas will look like as the image below.

Save your dashboard by clicking on the save icon at the top left corner.

You have successfully created a Power BI Dashboard.
